5 More (SIMPLE) Ways to Love Your Neighbor Like Yourself
Jun 15, 2020

The world feels divided.

There is chaos and fear in quantities I've never experienced before. Even though we have the ability to keep our family units in relative order, our minds wander to what we can do, how we help, where the truth is found and how to teach our children to be the kind of humans that change the world for the better.

As I have been active in a city not my own recently, I've noticed how much a smile, wave and greeting can change someone's demeanor. It's one thing to wave to your neighbors or even in your own neighborhood, but what else can we do to really love others as much as we love ourselves.

I don't want to give a bunch of pious rhetoric on bible verses and how God is in control. He is though and the Bible is the only truth I really know for sure.

The basics are:

  • Love your brother. (1 John 4)
  • Don't seek revenge. (Leviticus 19)
  • Do good to people. (Romans 13)
  • Treat others the way you want to be treated. (Romans 13)

But what do these things look like today? Are the bold Facebook posts that polarize us and create thicker lines of dissension the answer?

If we are the light and salt of the earth, don't we have a responsibility to be on the grass roots movement of showing love to the world looks like?

A lost and dying world needs the gospel, but not on cardboard signs at street corners, so here are 5 simple actions I think that will change the world.

  1. Say hello to strangers
  2. Make eye contact with people and smile
  3. Ask people in line with you or in the service industry how they are doing...then after they say, "fine." ask them how you can pray for them.
  4. Teach your children to say excuse me when they are close to someone or passing them.
  5. Give compliments and I mean look for ways you can say something nice to someone!

Should we be informed and have tough conversations? Yes! Call your public officials. Exercise your right to peacefully protest. Teach your children our country's history...the good, the bad and the ugly.

But in between all those things, don't forget that God has a heart for people, all people. So love and treat people like they are as valued as they are to Christ.

Thank you so much for sharing your time with us. Did you know it will only take 20,000 Christians donating $100 each to fund our facilities project?! Be 1 of the 15,500 left to help us achieve our vision!
