5 Reasons Believers Need a Home Church
Feb 24, 2020

Last weekend we said goodbye to our home church and set out on our long journey to serve churches and bless ministry leaders! We joined Calvary Chapel Tucson for worship and fellowship yesterday. It was such a bittersweet morning missing our church but enjoying the reminder that the body of Christ is alive and well outside of our church, town and even state.

As I took a bit of time to peek around during worship (dark confession) I took a deep sigh of satisfaction watching believers with hands raised and eyes lifted to God in their private moments of worship.

We all have our testimonies.

We all have our defeats.

We all stand before God with humble hearts when we remember all He has done for us and how we fail him daily.

I was reminded of how blessed we are to have a church family and why all believers should have a church they call their home church.

5 Reasons Believers Need a Church Home:

1.Genuine fellowship doesn’t just happen on Sunday’s:

Mature believers meet with believers more than once a week. They break bread with them whether in home fellowships or after mid-week services. Relationships take time and work and if you are not spending time cultivating relationships with people at church then they will not become your family. We are called to encourage one another and confess our sins to one another. Those are not the kind of activities you do well when you only see someone once a week.

2.The Body of Christ needs your service:

Mature believers serve in their church body. There are seasons for different types of service and a variety of ways people serve. Whether you are on a prayer team or teach children, there is great value in every way people serve in their church. I heard a story today from a sweet older couple who are snow birds so only in town for a few months and they walked into the church said they would be there for 3 months and asked where they could serve while they were there. The church placed them in the 5th/6th grade class and they are blessing the church they are essentially just visiting. What an encouragement to us all to get out and serve!! How many people attend their church week after week and do not think to fill a needed spot in their church. When a church is your home, you help there.

3.Real Christian relationships cultivate godliness:

Being around godly people cultivates godliness. Believers have opportunities for biblical rebuke and growth in the Lord when they have real loving relationships with people they know and love on a regular basis. When we want to be our best for God then we are open to correction. Correction leads to right relationship with God and makes us better Christians and humans!

4.Believers need wise counsel: Life is HARD!!

Seriously, we go through awful things in this fallen world and if we go to the world for advice we will quickly fall away from biblical teaching. Being in a church where people know God’s Word and can give you biblical counsel is so needed today. Wise counsel is also easier to swallow when we know and trust the person dishing out the advice. Your home church should have solid biblical teaching and be able to use God’s Word to draw you toward Christ in all circumstances.

5.We all need a place to call home:

Home really is where your heart is. It is difficult for most to keep our focus on eternity with Christ and our heavenly home, but that is really where we should be. A home church should give us that sense of home. It’s the people and knowing them intimately that is going to give that feeling in a God honoring way.

Believers, don’t settle for just going to church. Get plugged in. Get to know people. Fill needs in the body that need to be filled even if they aren’t your favorite. Love your local body of believers. Find a church to call home and do your part to make it true.
