Theology of Giving
Apr 12, 2021

When an organization chooses to co-labor with the body of Christ in ministry, the question of money always comes up in one way or another. As believers in Christ we understand we are stewarding God's resources for the glory of His purposes.  Sometimes I have to wonder though if what we are "believing" in theory actually processes in our actions in real life.

Let's get a couple things straight first:

Our God is rich. He is the Creator of all things. He owns everything and needs nothing from us.
(Col 1:16-17, Ps 50:7-12)

Everything we have has been given to us by God.
(1 Chron 29:14-16, Psalm 24:1)

We have been bought with a price and God has rightful claim to all we are and all we have.
(1 Cor 6:20, 1 Pet. 1:18-19)

It is more blessed to give than to receive.
(Acts 20:35)

O.K. Now that we got that out of the way... I have a quick story.

Recently as a pastor was sharing with us what a blessing our social media was, he said something that really struck me.  After his praise of our content and his frustration in our lack of likes/followers I asked him why he didn't share our content on his social media. His response hit me like a ton of bricks.

"Well, I don't share your posts because it's self serving."  I, of course, threw my head back dramatically and let out a long frustrated sigh.

What he was basically saying was that he wasn't going to share our posts because he didn't want to seem like  he was looking for the benefits as a pastor. Well isn't that a conundrum!! Here we are looking to serve him and his general profession and he doesn't want to share, even though he loves and supports what we are doing because he doesn't want to be self-serving in action.  It's noble. It's also incredibly deflating to a content creator.

It is in this same light I'm tempted to NOT talk about money...I mean, hey, we are raising a couple million dollars for facilities this could get weird and fast.

But here is the thing...if I don't talk about money then:

  • I rob people of the blessing of giving.
  • Christians don't get to labor with us for their church leadership.
  • I neglect the idea that stewardship of finances is a huge part of our faith as believers.
  • God's people do not get the opportunity to bless their church leadership on a massive scale.

God loves a cheerful giver and so do we!  We aren't even saying we'd love if you'd give to us (though we would, of course!), but you should be giving!  For us and our ministry, our confidence is in the Lord, not in money. The calling is upon us. The money will come.

God has that part!!

The question begs to be asked though...do YOU want to be a part of what God is doing?

Do you want to be a part of Cedar Creek Ministries?

Do you want to be a part of Samaritans Purse?

Do you want to adopt an orphan?

Do you believe everything you have is God's and you can freely without worry that He will provide?

What are you doing with your money that reflects a heart after God's business?  What are you doing with your financial resources that is going to have an eternal significance in this life and the next?

As you pray and move forward thinking about where the Lord would have you give, consider if He is calling you to join us in our passion to help church leaders rest, restore and revive.

We are to esteem those who are laboring in the Lord for our sake.

"We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves." 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

"Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith." Hebrews 13:7

Share your favorite place to give! We want the blessing of being able to partake in the Lord's business too!!

Thank you so much for sharing your time with us. Did you know it will only take 2000 Christians donating $1000 each to fund our facilities project?! Be 1 of the 1976 people left who can help us achieve our vision.
