3 Conversations Christians shouldn't be having
Mar 15, 2021

Yesterday we visited Renew Church in Miami Florida. We were greeted by friendly though masked faces with joy in their voice and demeanor. The people were welcoming, the children loved children's church and our older children and adults enjoyed the enthusiastic worship and passionate message from the youth pastor who happened to be teaching the main service!! I love showing up when the youth pastor is teaching!! It was even communion Sunday! Blessed morning no doubt.

Pastor Mikie, as his co-laborers lovingly refer to him spoke about there were some conversations we just didn't need to be having because they were not glorifying to God and they didn't help people walk out their faith well.

Thinking about the message and re-reading my notes filled me with a deep sense of remorse over past conversations in both real life and om social media that were genuinely worthless and DID NOT help anyone grow in the faith or love in Christ.

I will be the the absolute first to admit, I LOOOOVE a good conversation even if it gets a bit heated. I love people and their opinions and I even like to know why people believe opposite of me! But the hard truth is not all conversations need to be had...please do not confuse this with the hard conversations that DO need to be had, but that is a post for another day. There are times to be quiet and times to let it go because as far as it concerns us we are to live peaceably with all men.

Conversations you are trying to win:

Some of us are born with more fight than flight. I thought I was going to be a lawyer for the first 20 some years of my life. I also love people and love to hear everyone's opinions on everything. But alas...I hate when people have wrong opinions! HA! In all seriousness though some of us should just stay clear of apologetics because it makes us want to fight. If we are thinking, AT ALL, "Oh I'm going to win this!" then, perhaps it's a conversation we don't need to be having.

Idolatress conversations:

O.K. I'm not sure I want to go toe to toe with Jack Hibbs on this one, but some of the political conversations believers have been having the last several months have been straight up idolatrous. There shouldn't be any conversations we are engaging in that any man or country is going to save us from evil...I mean besides Jesus. I'm not saying at all that we can't be political or that we shouldn't expect good men to stand up and fight for what is right. I am saying tht we need to be careful to keep our Savior who He is and not let our emotions stir us into a frenzy.

Conversations that stir up dissension and strife:

I love a good conversation and even debate and with a certain kind of person debates can get heated and still end peaceably, but let's be honest...it's rare! There are some "non salvational" topics that really don't need to be so heated.

We need to be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in us...and so we need to be careful to not be total donkeys in regulars life and conversations so people can see our hope and want to learn more!

Thank you so much for sharing your time with us. Did you know it will only take 20,000 Christians donating $100 each to fund our facilities project?! Co-labor with God and us in creating a place for your leaders to rest, restore and revive.
