4 Ways to be Loyal to your Pastor
Aug 10, 2020

Personally loyalty has always been an interesting emotion/action to me. I have felt strong loyalty to non biblical principles or people who were wrong. That is not the kind of loyalty we are talking about here. Loyalty, if you are a Christian, should not be blind or ignorant. We know we can be loyal to God without question. It's important to show loyalty (constant support and allegiance) to your pastor because he is doing God's work. We should be loyal to all those who are doing God's work, but how much better to those who are serving us on a daily and weekly basis!

1. Support their biblical teachings:

Know your bible and do what it says...Christianity 101, right? Any good pastor will tell you to check what he says against the Bible. When your pastor gets up and preaches a solid, biblical message and you don't like it because it convicts you, do it anyway. Don't rant about his teaching. Don't kill the messenger. God's Word should be the authority in your life and you are being both loyal to God and your pastor when you support his biblical teaching with your actions and positive response toward his teachings.

2. Get behind their church philosophy:

It's important to remember that biblical teaching and church philosophy are different. We need to remember that men called by God to pastor can all lead differently. They may have different ways they lead, manage and teach, but that is o.k., even encouraged! Their are many different philosophies of leadership that are biblical, so get behind your pastor even if he does things a bit differently than you'd prefer. God has called him, not you.

3. Submit to church authority with thankfulness and joy:

Christians today don't like to talk about church authority, but your leadership should be able to correct you or your family and you should be thankful they want you to be in a right relationship with man and God. I had an experience once at a church wedding where one of our pastors called and talked to my husband about my parenting of a wild 2 year old. He wouldn't listen to me and I'd grabbed his ear to get his attention...well it just so happened that he had a big ugly scrape across his face from an outside fall earlier in the week. The pastor told my husband he knew us and he knew we weren't abusing our children, but with my frustration and the coincidental scratched faced he knew it looked worse than we realized and we wanted to be above reproach! It was the most encouraging (and humbling) thing to know he was willing to reach out and talk to us was amazing. I thanked him for the "rebuke" to which he responded horrified that he hadn't meant it as a rebuke at all. Still...we have to be willing to hear what our leadership has to say to us.

Church rules are also a big thing. Who cares if you don't understand why the rule is there, do it anyway. It's a great example to people and your family to obey the rules given by those in authority over you.

4. Remember they are put into authority by God:

I have personally been blessed to be under pastors who taught the word of God faithfully and encouraged us to search the scriptures. Believers should all be in churches like this. I will say though that God allows who He allows in the pulpit. These men are given the authority by God to be pastors. God's authority is to always be respected.
