10 Ways to Pray for Your Pastor
Aug 04, 2020

As we have built and centered an entire ministry around serving those in Christian leadership I would be greatly remiffed to not mention how important praying for our leaders is. I have been guilty of falling into the “works” category of helping more than a time or two and let myself forget the biblical truth that the fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

We have an entire prayer team that covers our ministry in prayer, we pray for the health and safety of our family and friends, but so often we forget to cover all our spiritual leaders in prayer. Maybe we even through up prayers for our senior pastor after we see him teach on Sunday, but what about the others who are helping make our churches the well oiled machines they are.

How often do you pray for your tech guys?

When was the last time you prayed for the youth pastor?

What about the church secretary, the administrative pastor or the elders?

Here are 10 ways you can pray for your church leaders:

1.Thankfulness would come easy to them:

Let’s face it, they deal with a ton of people, complaints and problems. Attitudes of gratitude are super helpful, but not always forefront.

2.Joy would be a choice they make no matter their circumstances:

James tells us to find joy in our trials because they produce patience. Pray your leaders have a biblical outlook on joy in and out of trials.

3.Discipline:

Knowing what to do and when is difficult in almost all of life, but when you have “emergency” situations pop up all the time having the discipline to work on what needs to be done first can be challenging.

4.People to lift their arms:

One man can’t do everything that needs to be done for his congregation or the administrative side of church. Praying for the right people to come alongside the church leaders to encourage and uplift them is imperative.

5.Protection over family time:

Many Christians don’t realize that being a pastor is a 24/7 job that includes crisis calls in the middle of the night and holidays upset by tragedy. These leaders still have families and need relationships with them to be strong.

6.That their home would be a sanctuary for them:

The world is a wild and dark place and I often pray for the leaders I know to love being home and to feel like it is a safe-haven and refuge for them each night when they arrive.

7.Their friendships would be fruitful and sharpen them:

Believe it or not many pastors and leaders admit having genuine friendship is difficult. Always pray that they have someone they can trust and confide in for wise counsel.

8.They would never lose sight of the gospel:

With all the administrative responsibilities and counseling church leaders go through, keeping the gospel at the forefront of their thoughts so they can keep an eternal perspective is really important.

9.Wisdom and discernment would be gifted to them:

Divine wisdom and discernment is so much better than man made use of knowledge correctly.

10.They would be surrounded by peacemakers:

Oh how humans love to divide and quarrel. Lord, please let our church leaders not only to be peacemakers, but be surrounded by peacemakers too.
